TWO SUNS
by Bess Miles-Duncan

Two suns before me
Lighting the world
One a fraction of the other
Yet alike with tentacles
Reaching out to warm us
And to show
That there is something
Far greater.
Yet its distance
Does not stop
Affecting our lives
And our hearts
When we allow it
Close.
It feeds us
Ripening the fruit
Yet without it and water
We could not exist.
So in the shadow
We remain.
